atlas 200hr yoga teacher training

Yoga Teacher Training with Denise Davis-Gains is an adventure of a life-time. We offer a deep dive into understanding the body through the study of anatomy, physiology, applied kinesiology and ergonomics. We integrate this knowledge with practice, and an exploration of the metaphysical aspects of yoga. Are you ready to explore the vast regions of inner space? Our traumas sensitive approach has evolved since 1997 into the deeply aware development of personal practice and training teachers to see each individual in a group class as unique. We provide the tools necessary to become student centred, trauma sensitive yoga teacher.

There are two options in which you can complete a foundational 200 hour yoga teacher training certification: the standard, full year 200hr Yoga Teacher Training Program and the Intensive 200hr Yoga Teacher Training Program (become certified in 1 month).

Train in person, online or in a hybrid format.

Train in person, online or in a hybrid format.

Note: It is recommended that you have a minimum of 6 months of yoga practice and read a little about yoga. We offer an intro to yoga program that is perfect for beginners who feel that they want to know more about yoga before taking a in depth YTT program.
All programs require a valid FirstAid/CPR/AED certificate to graduate.

We have developed a Trauma Informed Yoga Teacher Training module that will be included in your tuition.

THE ATLAS YOGA TEACHER TRAINING METHOD: LIVE YOUR OWN YOGA sadhana

The Atlas yoga method is organized into a complete physically logical system of tapas (or exercise) that will focuses on mental, physical and spiritual balance, strength and flexibility.  We call this methodology Samasa Yoga. We move towards optimal health and wellbeing that is trauma informed and rooted in ancient wisdom, modern research and science and introspection.

  1. Awareness - Centring through stillness and breath. Guided imagery to bring attention and intention into focus and to use the somatic power of the mind to enhance the embodied experience.

  2. Warm-up - Gentle, somatic exercises that coordinate breath and range of motion. Movement will wake up, invigorate, and prepare the body and mind for the asanas (postures) that follow. A method for releasing chronically contracted muscles, creating freedom and optimal movement.

  3. Posture and alignment - Floor, sitting, and standing asanas that enhance awareness of posture while helping to stretch, strengthen, and elongate the spine.

  4. Stretch - Carefully calibrated floor, sitting and standing asanas that increase muscle-flexibility, joint range of motion and awareness of self.

  5. Strength - Effective asanas that progressively tone and shape abdominals, upper, middle and lower back, glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps, calves and feet, shoulders, arms and hands.

  6. Balance and Coordination - Standing and moving asanas that centre, orient and propel you through space with grace and confidence, through the strengthening of the connection between the centre in the old brain stem for balance and the muscles used in each posture infused with prana (life force).

  7. Integration ~ Relaxation ~ Rejuvenation - Deep relaxation techniques are used to integrate the physical, mental and spiritual efforts of this method; giving the self an opportunity to heal and grow.

  8. Meditation - The Atlas Method explores movement as a pathway to a deep natural state of meditation. This integrative method includes a variety of techniques that will move concentrically into deeper and deeper states of consciousness as the participant is ready.

  9. Live Your Yoga - The yogic lifestyle is more than a system of exercise and wellness technologies. The linage suggests a way of life that is in line with consciously caring for self, relationship and the planet.

What to expect in the 200hr YTT COURSE

Introduction to the Ashtanga (eight limbed) system of yoga. This will provide a broad understanding of how asana (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), mudra (gestures), and bandha (diaphragmatic locks) fit into the larger landscape of yogic knowledge, wisdom, history and philosophy. Through direct experience, reading, viewing, teaching and dialogue we explore the disciplines of …
